International Women’s day

Happy Women’s day

Today’s an incredible day for women all over the world celebrating and making history together. As a woman, I’m immensely proud of how far we all have come and I’m thankful to all the great women who stood up for our rights.

A little over a century ago the Suffragettes were fighting for women’s right to vote and here we are now with women as Presidents and Prime Ministers, CEOs and much more. We are an unstoppable force. We persist.

For those of you who don’t know the story behind #Shepresisted let me catch you up on it.

So, when U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell cut off colleague Elizabeth Warren as she gave a speech, the Republicans supported McConnell and Warren was silenced. Later McConnell justified by saying “She was warned, she was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted”

Guess what happened next?

Hundreds of women who heard the story couldn’t help but relate to it. All of a sudden it wasn’t about a political statement anymore. Though the Republican McConnell said it in an entirely different context, he unintentionally gave women a pretty solid motivational slogan.

Next thing you know these words are all over the social media, on shirts, hashtags, tattoos etc etc.

How can one not be moved by this?

I was personally so motivated by the cry. Acceptance, for me never comes without an argument. I could never be able to accept something without understanding it first. I am not programmed that way. I won’t believe something just cuz the President or the Dean or even my father said so. I will always ask why. I will persist!

The habit is disliked, in a male dominant society, where they don’t like being talked back to. So you learn to submit, to be silent. But now, thousands of women are openly rebelling. Supporting each other in the movement, If this doesn’t define unity and the power of women I don’t know what does.

Like Maya Angelou said;

“Each time a woman stands up for herself, without knowing it possibly, without claiming it, she stands up for all women”

Cheers to all the women out there who stood up for themselves or somebody in their lives. You own the world.
This year’s theme for Women’s Day is Be Bold for change. To encourage women to be bolder and stronger. We are this close 👌🏼to our goal in gender equality and freedom for women. Women’s March are setting up a strike called 1 Day without a woman. Let’s see how the world will deal without. As for my fellow females try encouraging and supporting women instead of putting them down. We are all in this together. Let’s make each other proud and let’s make history together.
Love,

Manal.
